March 20th, 1956 : Tunisia is out of French occupation and becomes an independant State.
So yesterday we celebrated our 51st Independance Day anniversary.
We do not use fireworks to celebrate it but we do remember our history and take some time to realize with pride what our young country managed to realize in 51 years.

Actually, being out of foreign occupation is something great.
You are free to say how much you love your country, free to express your patriotism, free to wave you national flag...(sadly people only choose to do it on stadiums terracing)
I belong to those very lucky people out here who never had to face such situation, who opened their eyes and came to this world and saw that actually, everything was alright ("normaaal"), people to whom words such "occupation", "resistance" and "liberty" only have historical or even "folk" connotation, words that they only met through documentaries or historical manuals in schools...
And then, we just note this achievement, glorify that success, exalt that victory.......and then sadly rest on our laurels...!
But, are we that sure that we are out of any kind of subordination today ?
Are we sure we are that sovereign today ?
Are we sure we are in control of our economic policy today ?
Are we sure we are in control of our foreign policy today ?
Are we sure we are in control of our educational policy today ?
However, the world we are living in today is, I believe, is a new form of occupation.."Une occupation qui ne dirait pas son nom"..
It's an occupation with more subtley, but without any army, any soldier, or foreign administrator...
Sadly, the subordination link we were denouncing 60 and 70 years ago, is still there, still exists, no doubt...It's aim is the same; people enslavement..It has only taken new forms, new shapes, and new sizes....
فلسفة الثعبان المقدس هى فلسفة القوة المثقفة فى كل مكان , وكما تحدث الثعبان فى القصيدة التالية الى الشحرور بلغة الفلسفة المتصوفة حينما حاول ان يزين له الهلاك الذى اوقعه فيه , فسماه تضحية وجعله السبيل الوحيد للخلود المقدس ..كذلك تتحدث اليوم سياسة الغرب الى الشعوب الضعيفة بلغة الشعر والاحلام حيثما تحاول ان تسوغ طريقتها فى ابتلاعها والعمل لقتل ميزاتها القومية فتسميها :"سياسة الادماج " وتتكلم عنها كالسبيل الوحيد لهذه الشعوب اذا ارادت نيل حقوقها فى هذا العالم , وبلوغ الكمال الانسانى المنشود , ولكن الفناء حقيقة شنيعة , مبغضة لا ينقص من فظاعتها وكرهها كل ما فى التصوف والفلسفة والشعر من خيال واحلام !!
كانَ الربيعُ الحُيُّ روحاً، حالماً
غضَّ الشَّبابِ، مُعَطَّرَ الجلبابِ
يمشي على الدنيا، بفكرة شاعرٍ
ويطوفها، في موكبٍ خلاَّبِ
والأُفقُ يملأه الحنانُ، كأنه
قلبُ الوجود المنتِجِ الوهابِ
والكون من مظهرِ الحياة كأنما
هُوَ معبدٌ، والغابُ كالمحرابِ
والشّاعرُ الشَّحْرورُ يَرْقُصُ، مُنشداً
للشمس، فوقَ الوردِ والأعشابِ
شعْرَ السَّعادة والسَّلامِ، ونفسهُ
سَكْرَى بسِحْر العالَم الخلاّبِ
ورآه ثعبانُ الجبالِ، فغمَّه
ما فيه من مَرَحٍ، وفيْضِ شبابِ
وانقضّ، مضْطَغِناً عليه،
كأنَّه سَوْطُ القضاءِ، ولعنة ُ الأربابِ
بُغتَ الشقيُّ، فصاح في هول
القضا متلفِّتاً للصائل المُنتابِ
وتَدَفَّق المسكين يصرخُ ثائراً:
«ماذا جنيتُ أنا فَحُقَّ عِقابي؟»
لاشيءِ، وإلا أنني متعزلٌ
بالكائنات، مغرِّدٌ في غابي
«أَلْقَى من الدّنيا حناناً طاهراً
وأَبُثُّها نَجْوَى المحبِّ الصّابي»
«أَيُعَدُّ هذا في الوجود جريمة ً؟!
أينَ العدالة ُ يا رفاقَ شبابي؟»
«لا أين؟، فالشَّرْعُ المقدّسُ ههنا
رأيُ القويِّ، وفكرة ُ الغَلاّبِ!»
«وَسَعَادة ُ الضَّعفاءِ جُرْمُ..، ما لَهُ
عند القويِّ سوى أشدِّ عِقَاب!»
ولتشهد- الدنيا التي غَنَّيْتَها
حُلْمَ الشَّبابِ، وَرَوعة َ الإعجابِ
«أنَّ السَّلاَمَ حَقِيقة ٌ، مَكْذُوبة ٌ
والعَدْلَ فَلْسَفَة ُ اللّهيبِ الخابي»
«لا عَدْلَ، إلا إنْ تعَادَلَتِ القوَى
وتَصَادَمَ الإرهابُ بالإرهاب»
فتَبَسَّمّ الثعبانُ بسمة َ هازئٍ
وأجاب في سَمْتٍ، وفرطِ كِذَابِ:
«يا أيُّها الغِرُّ المثرثِرُ، إنَّني
أرثِي لثورة ِ جَهْلكَ التلاّبِ»
والغِرُّ بعذره الحكيمُ إذا طغى
جهلُ الصَّبا في قلبه الوثّابِ
فاكبح عواطفكَ الجوامحَ، إنها
شَرَدَتْ بلُبِّكَ، واستمعْ لخطابي»
أنِّي إلهٌ، طاَلَما عَبَدَ الورى
ظلِّي، وخافوا لعنَتي وعقابي»
وتقدَّوموا لِي بالضحايا منهمُ
فَرحينَ، شأنَ العَابدِ الأوّابِ»
«وَسَعَادة ُ النَّفسِ التَّقيَّة أنّها
يوماً تكونُ ضحيَّة َ الأَربابِ»
«فتصيرُ في رُوح الألوهة بضعة ً
، قُدُسية ٌ، خلصت من الأَوشابِ
أفلا يسرُّكَ أن تكون ضحيَّتي
فتحُلَّ في لحمي وفي أعصابي»
وتكون عزماً في دمي، وتوهَّجاً
في ناظريَّ، وحدَّة ً في نابي
«وتذوبَ في رُوحِي التي لا تنتهي
وتصيرَ بَعََض ألوهتي وشبابي..؟
إني أردتُ لك الخلودَ، مؤلَّهاً
في روحي الباقي على الأحقابِ..
فَكِّرْ، لتدركَ ما أريدُ، وإنّه
أسمى من العيش القَصيرِ النَّابي»
فأجابه الشحرورُ ، في غُصًَِ الرَّدى
والموتُ يخنقه: «إليكَ جوابي»:
لا أرى للحقِّ الضعيف، ولا صدّى ،
الرَّأيُ، رأيُ القاهر الغلاّبِ
«فافعلْ مشيئَتكَ التي قد شئتَها
وارحم جلالَكَ من سماع خطابي"
وكذاك تتَّخَذُ المَظَالمُ منطقاً
عذباً لتخفي سَوءَة َ الآرابِ
Great to read you safwene and welcome as one of this blog's readers.
I share your thouhgts about new forms of occupation. Occupation by force and weapons is easier to fight and dismentle than subtile, invisble ways of subordination such as economic, cutltural etc.
The best way to resist such means of occupation is to be aware of your history, your culture, your capacities and how you can turn them into profitable things for your development.
That's the only way to maintain freedom, liberty and independance. Long life to our dearest tunisia.

Sad, I can't read the arabic comments on your blog. I guess I only get half of what safwene said...
One thought that came to my mind is: if you know who you are, what does it matter if "culture" dictates you things? You can choose to follow trends like music, clothes, sports,... But you have a choice to do what you think is right and fitting. Nobody forces you to read specific things, think specific throughts or buy specific items.
Yes, access to opportunities is not spread out equally, and yes some countries (or groups within countries) are better off than others. Working for more equality is always good. But trying to be the next "superpower" or "influential institution" won't solve a thing. Understanding who tries to do that and what their agenda is can be step one. Step two should never be to beat them to it.

Concerning the culture, I never said that culture should dictate things (I am not sure if you refer to what I said about culture). I just said that you have to be aware of your culture. Which is different. Culture is a wealth to be shared among humankind. But before sharing your culture and make other people know it and appreciate it, you should be aware of it and of what it offers to the development of mankind's culture.
Concerning the point of equality in access to opportunities, I totally agree with you. Being driven by the will of becoming the superpower is not the best way to get your share of the pie. Doing so can only drive you blind and can just cause the opposite of the desired results.
