This is a story from my buddy anis's blog. I am translating it in English here.
"This is the story of 2 elderly men who were in the same room in a hospital. Due to their health situation, they were ordered to remain laying on their backs all day long. One of them, whose bed was near the window, was allowed to sit, however, one hour per day, in the afternoon. An hour that both expected with a lot of excitement for the joy it brings to their lives. Everyday, when that time comes, the man sits and starts describing what he sees through the window to his friend. He describes the lake that he sees in the park, the children playing and creating paper toys, couples walking near the lake, others sitting under trees. He describes flowers and their nice colors, as well as the magnificient sky. His friend was so happy with this precise and nice description. He closes his eyes and tries to imagine how life looks like outdoors.
One day, when the nurse came to perform the daily morning check, she finds out that the patient near the window passed away. His friend understood that when he heard the nurse asking for help to get him out of the room. He was so sad and he suffered a lot from his death. Few days after that, he asked the nurse to be moved to his friend's bed near the window and she agreed. In the afternoon, remembering the sweet stories of his friend, he decided to try and sit so that he can see what he misses so much. After hard attempts, he finally succeeded and to his big surprise, there was nothing but a vulgar wall of the hospital. There were no trees, no lake, no park. Astonished, he asks the nurse if this was the window of his late friend, and she answers that this is the unique window of the room. When she asks for the reason of his astonishment, he tells her the story. Her surprise was even bigger as she says : 'But that man was blind. He couldn't even see this wall. Maybe, he was just doing so, to give you hope and to help you fight despair".
Aren't you happy when you make others happy. People will often forget what you say or do. But they will never forget a feeling of happiness they felt thanks to you.
